Short Biography
Studied Maths Economics and Statistics at Birmingham University. Worked in local government - in Strathclyde Regional Council throughout its existence and subsequently with Glasgow City Council. Specialised in demographic analysis and forecasting, and then broadened out to a wide range of research and information functions and social policy development including area deprivation analysis.
I have been Chief Statistician in the Scottish Government since 1999.
