AQMeN - Applied Quantitative Methods Network

Multiple Regression Analysis - 2 day training course

This event was postponed due to bad weather and has now been reschduled for 17-18 February.  There are a small number of places still available on this event.   Applications should be submitted to events@aqmen.ac.uk by 26th January.  Anyone who applied to this event previously but was not allocated a place should resubmit an application if they wish to be considered for a place.

Two day training course

17-18 February,
Craiglockhart Campus, Edinburgh Napier University

Course Presenters
Robert Raeside (Edinburgh Napier University), Tony Glendinning (University of Aberdeen), Helen Brown (University of Edinburgh)

Course Content:
The course will provide a grounding in the theory and application of multiple ordinary least squares regression and statistical model building.  Practical examples will be given during hands on tutorial sessions using SPSS (PASW Statistics 18).  Participants will also be given the opportunity to consult the course presenters about their own data during the course.

Course objectives:

  • To refresh participants' knowledge of using multivariate statistical methods to analyse data.
  • To introduce participants to the use of regression techniques for statistical modelling.
  • To provide hands on experience of analysing data using SPSS and interpreting the output.

Learning outcomes

  • Participants will be able to understand the principles and assumptions underlying multiple ordinary least squares regression, ordinal regression, and be able to identify the appropriate circumstances in which to use such techniques.
  • Participants will be able to conduct analysis in each of these techniques using SPSS then understand and interpret the resulting output.

Pre-requisite criteria

All participants must be competent in the use of a PC and have some experience of SPSS.  You must also be familiar with basic statistical methods, including inference and hypothesis testing, and exploring data numerically and graphically.  Participants must indicate what they wish to achieve from the course and how they plan to use the techniques that they learn.

Application Process:

Places will be allocated following a process of application and priority will be given to students and academic staff in Scotland who meet the selection criteria, and for which the course is free to attend.

Non-academics and academics outside Scotland may apply and will be allocated any remaining places.  There will be a charge for non-academics and academics outside Scotland as follows:

  • Academic students and staff in Scotland - FREE
  • Students and Academic staff outside Scotland - £100
  • Public and Voluntary Sector - £200
  • Private Sector - £300

To apply for the course:
